Two days before the Delhi mayoral election, an AAP council member joins the BJP.

On April 26, candidates will vie for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

In the MCD elections held in December 2022, the AAP trounced the BJP by gaining 134 seats.

Sunita, an AAP councilwoman from the Dwarka C ward, joined the BJP on Monday in front of top members of the Delhi unit, ahead of the MCD mayor election.

On April 26, candidates will vie for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, claimed that ordinary volunteers in the AAP were treated like "bonded labour" while welcome Sunita into the party.

However, the AAP councillor's change of heart won't significantly influence the 2018 mayoral election.

104 out of the 250 wards saw victories for the BJP.

Sunita is the second councillor from AAP to switch to the BJP. Earlier this year in February, Pawan Sehrawat of the Bawana ward joined the BJP.

Along with Sunita, former AAP councillor Ram Niwas also switched to the BJP.

Parvesh Verma, a West Delhi BJP MP, claimed that many more AAP leaders are feeling "suffocated" and are likely to join the BJP shortly.
