New Delhi: The Congress released its initial slate of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh assembly elections on Sunday.
The party unveiled 144 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh elections, 30 for the Chhattisgarh elections, and an additional 55 for the Telangana assembly elections that are scheduled for the next month.
Former chief minister and PCC leader Kamal Nath was fielded by the party in Madhya Pradesh from his Chhindwara assembly seat. Jaivardhan Singh, the son of former chief minister Digvijaya Singh, has been nominated for the Raghogarh seat. During the last Kamal Nath government, he served as a minister.
Vijay Laxmi Sadho, a former member of the Rajya Sabha and another former minister from the state, has been fielded for the Maheshwar-SC assembly seat. Jitu Patwari, a former cabinet minister, has entered the race from the Rau assembly constituency.
The party fielded deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo from the Ambikapur assembly seat and chief minister Bhupesh Baghel from his Patan assembly seat in Chhattisgarh.
Speaker of the Chhattisgarh assembly Charan Das Mahant is running from Sakti assembly seat, while another senior minister, Tamradhwaj Sahu, is running from the Durg Rural assembly seat.
The Pradesh Congress has nominated its leader, Deepak Baij, for the Chitrakot-ST assembly seat. He is the Bastar MP in the Lok Sabha at the moment.
Mohan Markam, a former head of the PCC and current minister, has been nominated from the Kondagaon-ST assembly seat that he formerly held.
The Pradesh Congress chairman, Anumala Revanth Reddy, was fielded by the party for the Kodangal assembly seat in Telangana, whereas Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, the leader of the CLP, was fielded for the Madhira-SC seat.
Currently serving as the MP for Malkajgiri Parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha is Revanth Reddy.
In addition, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, the party's current member of parliament for the Huzurnagar assembly constituency, has entered the race. He presently represents Telangana in the Lok Sabha from Nalgonda. In addition, Kota Neelima, a rookie, has been fielded from the Sanathnagar assembly seat. Kota Neelima is the wife of national spokesman Pawan Khera.
Madhya Pradesh elections are scheduled for November 17, while the assembly elections in Chhatisgarh will take place in two stages on November 7 and 17. On November 30, there will be assembly elections in Telangana. On December 3, the results will be announced.
