January 26 is India's Republic Day celebration each year. Indians look forward to planning and taking part in a number of patriotic celebrations and activities on this public holiday. The Republic Day Parade, air show, and street performances by young people are just a few of the many events planned for the day. There is uncertainty on whether this is the 75th or 76th Republic in advance of these festivities.
75th or 76th Republic Day in 2024?
August 15, 1947, saw the end of British sovereignty in India. The British Parliament Act divided British India into the separate dominions of Pakistan and India. A draft committee was then established to create the Indian Constitution. A chairperson was appointed: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The Constituent was shown a draft constitution by this committee.
Republic Day Parade 75th Anniversary
This year's Republic Day themes are "Viksit Bharat (Developed India)" and "India-Mother Of Democracy." Aside from airshows and cultural events, the procession that begins at Delhi's Rajpath and ends at India Gate is the main attraction of the festivities. The President raises the flag at Rajpath on this day.
Along with honouring the valiant warriors
the President also confers gallantry medals, such as the Paramvir, Vir, and Ashok Chakras. Millions of people watch the live broadcast of the R-Day festivities across the country. Two all-female defence force contingents will join participate in the parade this year. There will be only female soldiers in one contingent of 144 people, with 60 ffrom the Army and the remaining members of the Air Force and Navy.
The chief guest of the previous year was none other than Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The award has been given to Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, this year. Here's how to watch the Republic Day Parade and take part in the festivities:
