At a recent political gathering, Kangana Ranaut, an actor who later entered politics, unintentionally attacked her BJP colleague Tejasvi Surya, believing him to be RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Targeting a "party of spoilt princes," Ranaut made fun of Surya's "hooliganism and fish consumption" in her remarks.
But given a recent video that surfaced showing him eating fish, which sparked a heated dispute between the BJP and the opposition, Tejashwi was the intended target of her jab. At the gathering, Tejasvi Surya, the BJP's candidate for Bengaluru South in the Lok Sabha, was unfairly singled out.
Ranaut has been openly critical of the Congress party since the BJP nominated her as their candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. She has specifically targeted Rahul Gandhi and Vikramaditya Singh. Ranaut proceeded to criticise Congress leaders during a public speech in Sundernagar, within the Mandi Parliamentary Constituency. She claimed that their emphasis on unworkable issues and reliance on dynastic heritage for political influence was the reason for their failure.
The political atmosphere in the area is becoming more intense, as seen by the approaching Mandi Lok Sabha elections, which are set for June 1 in the seventh round of the 2024 Lok Sabha votes. Ranaut made a subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi and Vikramaditya Singh during a recent poll rally in Manali by claiming that there is a “Bada Pappu” in Delhi and a “Chhota Pappu” in Manali. Her opponent for the Mandi Parliament seat is the minister of Himachal Pradesh, Vikramaditya, who is a descendant of the former Rampur estate. He is the son of Pratibha Singh, the head of the state Congress, and late Virbhadra Singh, a six-time chief minister.
This controversy arises at a time when Kangana has been approachable by regular voters but has remained quiet with the media during the campaign. To yet, she has focused mostly on small events and road concerts, where fans try to catch a close-up look at her before maybe clicking with the "Queen" star. Since the actor is running for office in Himachal Pradesh for the first time, selfies and group shots with the actor are popular. Videos of the Mandi-born actress scrubbing the grounds of a temple and dancing with local ladies have gone popular during her campaign. She frequently interacts in their languages with potential voters and emphasises that she is Mandi's daughter.
