Introduction
Political activities are gaining momentum in Uttar Pradesh as the state prepares for its 2027 Assembly elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started strengthening election arrangements, reviewing voter lists and preparing polling infrastructure across the state.
One of the biggest recent developments is a statewide voter-enrolment campaign scheduled to begin on 12 November 2026. The initiative aims to ensure that eligible citizens, especially young people and women, are included in the electoral rolls.
1. Election Commission Announces Voter Registration Drive
The Election Commission has announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh, beginning on 12 November 2026.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the campaign will focus on identifying eligible citizens whose names are missing from voter lists.
The initiative will involve educational institutions, government departments, ASHA workers, ANMs and anganwadi workers to encourage eligible citizens to register.
2. Special Focus on Young and Women Voters
The campaign will give special attention to first-time voters aged 18–19 and eligible women who are not currently registered.
According to reported electoral data, the gender ratio in the final voter list declined to 834 women per 1,000 men following the earlier Special Intensive Revision.
Authorities plan to involve women's self-help groups and frontline health workers to identify eligible women who may have been left out.
Students and young people will also receive voter-awareness support through educational institutions, National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and other organisations.
3. Uttar Pradesh Gets 3,786 Fewer Polling Stations
Another major election development concerns polling infrastructure.
The Election Commission has approved a reduction of 3,786 polling stations across Uttar Pradesh's 403 Assembly constituencies.
The total number of polling stations has decreased from 1,77,516 to 1,73,730.
The rationalisation follows a guideline of approximately 1,200 voters per polling station. Authorities have been instructed to inform voters about relocated or changed polling locations so they can avoid confusion during future elections.
4. Election Preparations Reviewed Across 18 Districts
The Election Commission has also reviewed election preparations in 18 districts across western Uttar Pradesh.
The review covered voter-list management, polling-station facilities, election security, EVM awareness and training for election officials.
Officials have been instructed to strengthen arrangements to ensure that the 2027 Assembly elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
5. Important Dates for Uttar Pradesh Voters
According to the announced schedule:
12 November 2026: Consolidated electoral roll and SSR process begins.
12 November–11 December 2026: Period for claims and objections.
28 December 2026: Target date for resolving claims and objections.
4 January 2027: Scheduled publication of the final electoral roll.
1 January 2027: Qualifying date for voter registration.
Eligible citizens should check their voter details and use the official Election Commission portal for registration and corrections.

Conclusion
Uttar Pradesh is entering an important period of election preparation ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls. The new voter-enrolment campaign, polling-station rationalisation and administrative reviews are significant steps towards improving electoral participation and organisation.
For citizens, checking voter registration details and ensuring accurate information in the electoral roll will be especially important.
